MEET OUR FAMILY
If you want to know a bit more about the beginning and when the kids were small, check out Martha's Story. As for the family, the kids are all grown up as you can see, but some things have not changed; we are all still happy, healthy, and vegetarian! On this page we'll bring you up to date with our family's passions and pursuits, as we have fun living the dream, vegetarian style!
A lot has changed since the concept for our first book in 2006; at that time, Londale Sr. was still in law enforcement, Kamaal was in college studying Spanish translation after just coming off a year in Costa Rica, and Londale Jr. was living his dream playing college basketball. I was on sabbatical from my CPA practice and was involved in managing our family's real estate investments. We were living in Maryland, 3,000 miles away from our home in Los Angeles.
Since then, we have been on a whirlwind of change! Our lives have evolved in the most creative, magical way possible. We are all back in Los Angeles and live walking distance from the beach which we love. The two Londales are now actors! Yes, actors!!! Londale Jr. is also a standup comedian. This is a dream come true for me because I have always been passionate about filmmaking and storytelling, even when I was a little girl growing up in Detroit. I found solace and and escape through movies so I am so excited that our family is now involved in making them!
Kamaal, The World Traveler
Kamaal has a career in another passion of mine - travel! She parlayed her education and natural talent for language (she is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French and Japanese), her interest in other cultures, her desire to be of service, and her formal training as a model into the perfect career - flight attendant! She is able to interact with fascinating people from all over the world and of course, check out the vegetarian fare along the way.
The Londales - Real Men Who Don't Eat Meat
Londale Sr., "The Cop That Can Act", was a Police Officer when we met and subsequently spent more than twenty years in active law enforcement. During his time in the academy and on the force, Londale followed his vegetarian principles without compromise, regardless of the extreme circumstances he may have found himself in. As a member of the City of Santa Monica Police Department Crime Impact and S.W.A.T. team for a number of years, Londale had to be able to respond immediately when the team was called out, and he had to be able to perform in high-risk situations that demanded focus and strength. The fact that he was vegetarian was NEVER an inconvenience. In fact, it was just the opposite. Each day, I prepared home-cooked meals for him so that he would not have to go scavenging for food mid-shift or end up at the proverbial doughnut shop. Not only did our food keep him healthy and focused, but he actually excelled in physical fitness winning the “Toughest Cop Alive” (a decathlon for Police Officers) in the 1995 California Police Olympics, and winning a gold medal in bodybuilding in the 1996 games at the age of 39. He is also an expert in martial arts, and holds a black belt in Krav Maga, the world renowned self-defense system that is used by the Israeli military and is the basis for many fight scenes used in Hollywood blockbusters. He is now a full-time actor, bringing the truth of the streets to his roles. Check out his projects at www.LondaleTheus.com.
Londale Jr., like his father, is also an actor which became his passion after his basketball career ended due to a torn ACL. (Side note - the injury had nothing to do with his being a vegetarian! So many basketball players have had this same issue!). He switched his major from Business to Theater and the GREAT news is that his passion and talent for acting has not only matched, but has surpassed that for basketball! He is a hilarious standup comic and has booked commercials playing with NBA All-Stars such as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, so he is actually getting paid to play basketball now - without wearing out his body! Check out a clip below and see more of his comedy at www.TallDarkAndFunny.com.
