Last year we discovered Beyond Meat's famous Beast Burger and they have been added to our favorite products, and are even featured in the "Straight Outta The Box" section of our cookbook, The Vegan System. If you've been following our family for a while, you know that we do not eat a lot of veggie burgers but you always need a couple on deck! This is one of our favorites for the following reasons:
The texture of the Beast Burger is great and each vegan ¼ lb. burger has 23 grams of protein and is gluten, soy, and GMO free. This is a great option for those who want to avoid gluten and soy, and especially GMOs. The protein is from peas - who knew? As far as I know this is the only veggie burger on the market that is packed with protein but is soy and gluten free.
INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS
Basically, just add any of your favorite condiments. For this recipe, we used:
2 Pretzel Buns from Pretzilla
2 Beast Burger Patties, sauteéd on medium heat for about 3 -4 minutes on each side
¼ sliced sweet onion, sauteéd until soft
Trader Joe's "Cowboy Caviar", or Corn and Chili Tomato-less salsa, mixed with a bit of Mexican Seasoning
2 slices of tomato
a bit of kale or lettuce
ketchup
Sauté the onion until just soft and set aside. Sauté the burgers as directed above and set aside. These burgers are best grilled or sauteéd, not microwaved. DO NOT OVERCOOK, or they may become dry and hard. Assemble your burger using the above condiments or try your favorites! Great with vegan cheese too.
Beyond Meat has several products so check them out! One of our favorites is the Feisty Crumble - it's perfect in our Mexican style dishes and is seasoned just right.
Beyond Meat can be found nationwide in the freezer section of many health food and mainstream grocery stores, even Target! For a store closest you check out the store locator on their website.
